Hope and Optimism

Hope and optimism (by Gerrit Kempeneers) brings together a collection of works by 25 artists from all over the world, each interpreting the theme of hope and optimism in their own way. This theme is derived from a linocut by the South African artist John Mufangelo, which he produced in 1984. This served as a propaganda image for Nelson Mandela, most notably at his 70th birthday Wembley tribute concert in 1988.
Artists from Nigeria, Japan, Syria and Sweden all express themselves through a print technique of their choice.
For Belgium, the work of the Liège engraver Dacos (Image of Namibia, 1994) has been selected.
This exhibition will also be an opportunity to discover the winner of the new Dacos Award, which has been established by the City of Liège in conjunction with the artist's family.
