Hubert Grooteclaes – Retrospective

23 October 2014 marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Hubert Grooteclaes (Aubel, 1927–Liège, 1994). The first to bring photography into painting galleries and a professor for more than 20 years at the Saint-Luc School of Arts in Liège, this self-taught photographer helped to found the Liège school of photography.

Designed in collaboration with those closest to him, the exhibition retraces the evolution of his career in the form of a retrospective, from his early work to his last landscapes, including famous portraits of artists (Léo Ferré, Romy Schneider, Miles Davis, Jacques Brel, etc.), photographs, paintings and coloured blurs.

The work is both avant-garde and steeped in a major sense of nostalgia.
